The entire facility is scheduled to be completed in eight weeks
The municipality of Bickenbach has begun the comprehensive redesign of the "Im Leierhans" in Höhsand. Following the completion of the tendering process and the delivery of the new playground equipment, construction work is now underway. The construction period is expected to last approximately eight weeks.
The aim of the project is to develop the existing playground into an accessible and inclusive facility. In the future, children with and without disabilities should be able to play together, meet each other, and spend their free time there.
“We are creating a modern playground that takes into account the different needs of children and enables them to play together,” says Mayor Markus Hennemann. “The Leierhans playground will thus become a place where diversity and participation are a natural part of everyday life.”
The municipality is investing more than €212,000 in the redesign . Nearly €101,000 comes from the European LEADER program , which is funded by the state of Hesse. This covers approximately 60 percent of the eligible costs. District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas and First Deputy District Administrator Lutz Köhler presented the funding approval notice during a site visit.
New games for all age groups
Numerous new play and recreational areas are planned. These include a fragrance garden, a climbing frame, a spinning disc, a nest swing, a hammock, a wooden ramp with a rope, and a trampoline. The existing cable car, made possible by a donation from a family in Bickenbach, will remain.
The new playground will have separate areas for children under three years old, for primary school children, and an area for older children of all ages.
Accessible pathways and orientation aids are intended to facilitate access and use. The facility is complemented by shaded seating areas and a disabled parking space at the entrance. At the same time, the municipality aims to minimize additional land sealing.
During construction, the playground will be partially closed and its use will be limited. Once the work is completed, families in Bickenbach will have access to a modern, inclusive, and versatile recreational facility.
