The team from Darmstadt-Eberstadt won 26 medals and achieved a sensational fourth place in the overall standings
With an exceptional team performance, the SAN-TI martial arts school from Darmstadt-Eberstadt made an impressive showing at the WMAC German Open in Sinzheim. Despite a relatively small contingent of only eight athletes, the team achieved an outstanding fourth place overall out of 95 participating martial arts schools, clubs, and associations.
With around 1,100 entries over two days of competition, the German Open was one of the largest martial arts events of the year. Following the opening ceremony by WMAC President Harald Folladori, athletes competed in the disciplines of point fighting, karate kumite, light contact, and karate kata. The sweltering summer heat presented additional challenges, demanding a great deal from participants, coaches, referees, and organizers alike.
26 medals for the SAN-TI team
The Darmstadt martial arts school SAN-TI boasts an impressive record: They won a total of 26 medals – ten gold, eleven silver, and five bronze. This made them one of the most successful clubs in the entire championship.
The athletes also impressed in the individual competition. Four athletes made it into the top 20 out of more than 390 medal winners:
- 6th place: Ben Gebhardt (2 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze)
- 10th place: Jernellio Inglese (3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)
- 11th place: Din Pullmann (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)
- 14th place: Noah Pullmann (2 gold, 2 silver)
Successful individual results
Jernellio Inglese was particularly successful , winning three gold medals in pointfighting and karate kumite, as well as silver and bronze in other disciplines.
Ben Gebhardt secured two gold medals in karate kumite, as well as three silver and one bronze medal. Din Pullmannwon two gold medals, in addition to two silver and one bronze.
Noah Pullmann impressed with two gold and two silver medals. Amir Gadzo won gold in karate kata as well as silver and bronze in other competitions. Amina Gadzo completed the medal collection with silver and bronze, while Daniela Bender Alonso contributed a silver medal in point fighting.
Coach praises team spirit and discipline
For headmaster Tino Inglese, the success goes far beyond the medal haul.
“Fourth place out of 95 clubs with only eight participants fills us with great pride. Our athletes not only impressed with their athletic performance this weekend, but also exemplified our values such as respect, discipline, fairness, and team spirit. Especially under these extreme weather conditions, every single fight was an additional challenge. This makes the performance of everyone involved all the more impressive,” explained Inglese.
With this strong performance, the SAN-TI martial arts school continues its successful competition season and looks optimistically towards the upcoming national and international championships.
