Demand for natural and low-maintenance burials is increasing
The cemetery in Bickenbach is being further developed: The municipality plans to expand the range of tree urn graves, thus responding to changing wishes regarding burial forms.
Changes in burial practices
Burial practices have changed significantly in recent years. Traditional casket burials are declining, while cremation is becoming increasingly popular. At the same time, there is a growing demand for low-maintenance grave types.
The cemetery in Bickenbach already offers various options, including tree urn burials and communal burial sites. With the expansion of services, these options will be given even greater consideration in the future.
A nature-based alternative of growing importance
Tree urn graves are considered a natural form of burial and blend into the existing cemetery landscape. They offer a peaceful environment and are particularly appealing to people seeking a sustainable and low-maintenance alternative to traditional graves.
These types of graves are also gaining in importance in connection with ecological burial practices. They represent a more conscious approach to nature and resources, as well as reduced grave maintenance.
Further developments at the cemetery
The cemetery in Bickenbach currently covers approximately 9,000 square meters with more than 1,300 burial plots. The expansion of the tree urn graves is part of a long-term strategy to adapt the site to societal changes.
Furthermore, additional measures are planned. A memorial for stillborn children is to be created, offering affected families a place to grieve. Infrastructure improvements, such as to sidewalks and the container site, are also planned.
Mayor Markus Hennemann sees this as an important step: The measures represent a modern, sustainable and needs-based further development of the cemetery.
