Aid organizations criticize the planned 2027 federal budget
The aid organization ADRA Germany eV, together with around 150 non-governmental organizations, is warning against planned cuts in the 2027 federal budget. This warning stems from the key figures presented on April 29th, which foresee cuts in development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
Petition against austerity policies launched
With the petition "Don't cut solidarity to the bone," the organizations are calling on the German government to stop the cuts and instead invest more heavily in global aid measures. The initiative is supported by, among others, the umbrella organization VENRO.
Key demands include:
- at least 11.2 billion euros for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
- at least 2.8 billion euros for humanitarian aid
Development successes at risk
According to ADRA, significant cuts have already been made since 2022. The organization warns that this jeopardizes important progress.
These include, among other things, declining child and maternal mortality, progress in combating diseases such as polio or malaria, and improved access to education worldwide.
Possible consequences of the cutbacks
The organizations involved see the planned cuts as a withdrawal of Germany from its international responsibility. According to forecasts, millions of additional deaths could result by 2030 if funding is further reduced.
According to ADRA, vulnerable groups such as women, girls and queer people are particularly affected.
Call for support
The petition aims to build political pressure. Citizens can support the initiative online.
