The intersection will receive a new traffic light system from August 6th – temporary traffic lights will regulate traffic during the two-week work period
The city of Darmstadt will be renewing the traffic light system at the intersection of Kasinostraße and Bismarckstraße starting Thursday, August 6. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks. During the construction period, temporary traffic lights will be used for traffic control.
The existing traffic light system is 34 years old and, according to the city, has reached the end of its technical lifespan. The replacement is intended to ensure long-term operational reliability.
“In recent months, we have already modernized several traffic signal systems in the city and brought them up to the latest technical standards. With the renewal of the system at the Kasino/Bismarckstraße intersection, we are consistently continuing this approach. Reliable traffic control and high reliability are of particular importance, especially at busy intersections,” explains Head of Transport Paul Georg Wandrey.
On the night of August 6th to 7th, mobile signal masts with concrete foundations will be erected and connected to each other via overhead cables. Then, starting on Monday, August 10th, the dismantling of the old traffic light system will begin. This will involve removing the existing signal heads and cables and pulling new lines into the existing conduits.
The city will then install modern signal transmitters and a new control unit. At the same time, accessibility will be improved: all pedestrian crossings will be equipped with acoustic signals for blind and visually impaired people, as well as new push buttons with tactile elements.
“With the new facility, we are investing in a safe, efficient and accessible transport infrastructure. The modernization improves conditions for all road users and creates the technical basis for reliable operation in the coming decades,” said Wandrey.
The costs for modernizing the traffic light system amount to approximately 100,000 euros.
