New parking zone BE3 will be in effect from October 19th – residents can already apply for parking permits
Parking management will begin in Bessungen-Süd on Monday, October 19, 2026. With the new parking zone BE3, all of Bessungen will be covered by the city's parking management system. For drivers, this means, among other things, fees of €0.75 per 30 minutes and a maximum parking time of four hours. Residents have been able to apply for a resident parking permit since September 4.
The city council decided to introduce parking management in Bessungen-Süd in September 2025. This decision was based, among other things, on a study from 2024, which found that the occupancy rate of public parking spaces in the area studied was between 77 and 91 percent.
New parking zone BE3 also includes the Orangery
Parking zone BE3 extends to the area south of Hermannstrasse, west of Klappacher Strasse, east of Donnersbergring and north of Lichtenbergschule.
The parking lot at the Orangerie will also be included in the plan. Parking times there will be adjusted to the regulations of the new zone. Existing special regulations, such as those for weekly tickets and the Bessungen market, will remain in effect.
The existing parking spaces and street space will initially remain unchanged with the introduction of parking management. Only after evaluating the impact on parking demand will the city consider whether and where parking spaces need to be reorganized.
75 cents for 30 minutes
Approximately 50 parking ticket machines will be installed in the new parking zone . Payment can be made with cash, debit card, or via app.
Parking fees are in effect Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.The fee is 75 cents per 30 minutes, with a maximum parking time of four hours. The controlled parking area is marked at the entrances and exits and/or by individual signs.
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey justifies the introduction, among other things, by citing the high occupancy of parking spaces and problems caused by vehicles parked on sidewalks. The goal is to better balance the diverse mobility needs in the neighborhood.
A resident parking permit costs 120 euros per year
Residents of the new parking zone have been able to apply for a resident parking permit since September 4th . The annual fee is currently €120. With this permit, parking fees and time limits are waived within the respective parking zone.
To apply, you will need the vehicle registration certificate and your identity card or passport. If the vehicle belongs to someone else, written confirmation of use is also required. For company vehicles, the company must confirm private use.
Applications can be submitted online via the city's digital town hall under the menu item "resident parking".
Guest cards for visitors
Residents can also purchase guest passes. One pass sheet contains nine daily passes and one weekly pass and currently costs €20 in administrative fees. Parking fees and maximum parking durations are waived with the guest passes.
The cards can be ordered by email at meldeamt@darmstadt.de . Residents do not need to own a vehicle or have a resident parking permit to obtain them.
Businesses, freelancers, and social and technical services can apply for special parking permits under certain conditions. One requirement is that they do not have their own parking spaces at their business location and that there is no reasonable option to rent parking nearby.
