The association advocates for a comprehensive evaluation before any changes are made
The City Marketing Darmstadt association opposes a premature repeal of the existing ban on soliciting while begging in Darmstadt's city center. The association calls instead for a comprehensive evaluation of the current regulation.
“From the perspective of our downtown customers, we regret the threatened, premature reversal of the ban on soliciting,” explains the chairman of the association, Dr. Moritz Koch.
Focus on well-being and a sense of security
According to the association, a central goal of city marketing is to ensure that visitors feel safe and comfortable in Darmstadt's city center.
This sense of security must not be undermined by the behavior of individuals or groups. The association regularly receives feedback from member companies indicating that numerous visitors to the city center feel disturbed by begging activities.
The regulation makes the work of the city police easier
The ban on soliciting was, from the association's perspective, an important step towards improving the situation in the city center. Furthermore, the regulation has made the work of the city police easier, as violations can be detected and monitored more readily.
The club fears that a return to the previous regulations could lead to a resurgence of past complaints.
Evaluation before further decisions
The member companies of Citymarketing therefore advocate maintaining the existing regulation for the time being and evaluating it jointly with all parties involved.
Only on the basis of such an evaluation can a sensible decision be made about possible adjustments.
Security and order as key topics
Citymarketing Darmstadt eV has been committed to the issues of safety, cleanliness and order in the city center for many years.
Topics regularly discussed include begging activities, the coexistence of pedestrian and bicycle traffic, shoplifting, and lighting in public spaces.
