The city of Darmstadt and SV 98 are investing around 57,000 euros – work is scheduled to be completed by 2026
180 new bicycle parking spaces are being created at Böllenfalltor . The City of Darmstadt and SV Darmstadt 98 are jointly developing the additional parking facilities on Nieder-Ramstädter Straße. Work could begin at the end of September and is expected to be completed this year.
The new bicycle racks are being built on publicly accessible land under a long-term lease. The city and the association are sharing the organization and financing of the project.
The state of Hesse covers a large part of the costs
According to the city, the total costs amount to approximately 57,000 euros. The state of Hesse is funding the project and covering 75 percent of the eligible costs.
SV Darmstadt 98 will cover the non-eligible costs amounting to €10,000. The city of Darmstadt will contribute approximately €12,000.
"Anyone coming to the stadium by bicycle should find a good and safe place to do so," explains Head of Mobility Paul Georg Wandrey. According to him, the additional parking spaces are intended to improve conditions for traveling to home games by bicycle.
Work could begin at the end of September
SV Darmstadt 98 is currently preparing to relocate a fence in front of the training ground. The city will then take over the remaining work. The designated area will receive a water-bound surface, after which the bicycle racks will be installed.
Provided the tendering process can be completed as planned, work is scheduled at the end of September . Completion is still planned for 2026.
SV 98 managing director Michael Weilguny points out that many spectators come to home games by public transport, on foot or by bicycle. The additional parking facilities were therefore urgently needed.
With this project, the city and the club continue their collaboration to improve bicycle access to the stadium.
