Grieg's "Peer Gynt" and Sibelius' "Finlandia" are on the program at Christ Church on September 13th
The Darmstadt Instrumental Society invites you to the concert "Music of the North" at the Christuskirche in Eberstadt. Under the direction of Mihail Katev, the orchestra will perform music by Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius. Narrator Aart Veder will accompany Grieg's "Peer Gynt" with excerpts from the story.
The concert's centerpiece is Edvard Grieg's music for Henrik Ibsen's "Peer Gynt." The story leads from an encounter with trolls and the famous "Hall of the Mountain King" through a journey to Africa to a shipwreck. The well-known "Morning Mood" is also included in the program.
“Music of the North” with Grieg and Sibelius
Between the musical pieces, Aart Veder, as narrator, recounts episodes from Peer Gynt's adventurous life. In this way, the concert combines orchestral music and narration into a journey through the history of the literary figure.
In addition to Grieg's "Peer Gynt," the Darmstadt Instrumental Society will perform Jean Sibelius's "Finlandia." This work is among the Finnish composer's most famous compositions and was written against the backdrop of the Russian rule over Finland at that time. The Darmstadt Instrumental Society is conducted by Mihail Katev.
