Crisis management, heavy rain, bypasses and construction projects are on the agenda
The city of Groß-Gerau invites residents to a public meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Riedhalle in Dornheim. The agenda includes topics such as municipal crisis management, dealing with heavy rainfall, the Dornheim bypass, and several construction projects. Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions of city and local government representatives.
This is the first town hall meeting of the current legislative period. It is being convened by City Council Chairwoman Julia Hartmann (CDU). According to the Hessian Municipal Code, town hall meetings are required at least once a year to inform residents about important municipal matters.
Crisis preparedness and protection against heavy rain
Sabine Hoffmann, Head of Special Projects and Crisis Management, explains how Groß-Gerau is preparing for potential crisis situations. These include, for example, extended power outages, cyberattacks, or major accidents.
For such cases, the city is planning reporting centers and, if needed, a care facility for up to 50 people.
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau will report on climate management and how to deal with severe weather events. This will include, among other things, preparedness for heavy rainfall and the role that unsealing surfaces can play.
Bypass and new building areas
Another topic is the current status of the Dornheim bypass, for which, according to the city, preparatory work has already begun.
Furthermore, information will be provided about the development plans for the planned residential area “Am Hinterlacher Sand” in the north of Dornheim and the industrial area “Am Hermannsberg West” in the north of Groß-Gerau.
The further development of the "Lausböhl" area will also be discussed. The city council rejected the establishment of a data center there by a majority vote in February 2026.
Citizens can ask their own questions
In addition to the scheduled agenda items, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about other municipal issues. The chairpersons of the political groups represented in the Groß-Gerau city council will also attend the public meeting and be available to answer questions.
