The exhibition at the Hessian State Museum ends on June 21st
The special exhibition “#SHOTBYADAMS. Photography by Bryan Adams” at the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt continues to be very popular. The museum reports that it surpassed the 20,000 visitor mark last weekend.
Due to continued high demand, the museum recommends reserving tickets online in advance. The exhibition is only on display until Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Photographer and musician at the same time
The exhibition showcases selected works by Canadian musician and photographer Bryan Adams. On display are works from the series “#SHOTBYADAMS”, “WOUNDED: THE LEGACY OF WAR”, “HOMELESS”, and “IN COLOUR”.
Alongside his successful career as a singer and songwriter, Adams has also established himself internationally as a photographer since the 1990s and has received numerous awards for his work.
“We are delighted with the extraordinary visitor response. The fact that a young audience in particular has found its way to the photo exhibition confirms our commitment to making cultural offerings attractive for different generations,” explains Julia Hillebrand, Deputy Director of the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt.
Famous faces in front of the camera
In the series “#SHOTBYADAMS”, Bryan Adams portrays numerous well-known personalities from culture, music and film. Among the subjects are Julianne Moore, Sir Ben Kingsley, Amy Winehouse and Sir Mick Jagger.
The photographs demonstrate Adams' flair for staging and his ability to reveal the personality of the person portrayed.
Photographs with a social message
Besides celebrities, Adams also addresses social issues. The series "WOUNDED: THE LEGACY OF WAR" portrays British soldiers who returned from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with severe injuries. The portraits powerfully document the personal consequences of military conflicts.
In the series "HOMELESS," Adams focuses on homeless people in London who sell the street magazine "The Big Issue." The photographs address social exclusion while simultaneously portraying the subjects with dignity and respect.
Artful color compositions
With his "IN COLOUR" series, Bryan Adams adds an extra artistic dimension to his photography. By combining the images with individually coordinated color fields, he creates works with a unique atmosphere and visual impact.
The exhibition is presented in cooperation with Crossover and the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt. It was curated by Anke Degenhard and Mat Humphrey.
Tours already fully booked
The last public guided tours of the exhibition are already fully booked. However, visitors can still view the photographs during regular opening hours until the exhibition closes on June 21.
