Criminal police advise: "Empty your car before others do."
Groß-Gerau district. Following several thefts from unlocked vehicles in the district, the Rüsselsheim burglary squad K 21/22 urgently appealing to all vehicle owners not to consider their cars a safe place to store valuables. In recent days, the police have registered an increasing number of cases in which valuables were stolen from parked vehicles or attempts were made to do so.
"Thieves recognize good opportunities immediately," warn investigators. "A brief moment of inattention is all it takes." Perpetrators are particularly likely to strike when they open vehicle doors or visible valuables – such as wallets, backpacks, or navigation devices.
Police advise caution
The criminal police give clear recommendations for action:
- Always lock vehicles , even if you are only leaving for a short time.
- Do not leave valuables visibly in the vehicle
- Never leave the car key inside the vehicle – neither loose nor in the ignition.
According to the police, there are also repeated cases in which thieves merely test whether a door is unlocked in order to then spontaneously make off with loot.
Witnesses should contact the police
Anyone who makes suspicious observations or witnesses a theft should immediately call the police emergency number 110. A direct confrontation with the perpetrators should be avoided at all costs.
With the concise appeal "Empty your car before someone else does!", the police in the Groß-Gerau district remind people that prevention is the best protection against theft.
