Defensive midfielder moves from Elversberg to Darmstadt
SV Darmstadt 98 has further strengthened its squad by signing Carlo Sickinger . The 28-year-old defensive midfielder joins the Lilies from SV Elversberg and has already joined the team for their training camp in Bad Wörishofen. He will wear the number 23 jersey in Darmstadt .
Sporting director Paul Fernie sees Sickinger as the perfect successor to the departed Paul Will. "With Carlo, we fill the vacancy in defensive midfield left by Paul Will's departure. He has a feel for positioning, clean passing, and combines a good mix of strategic elements as a structuring force with defensive stability," Fernie explains. Furthermore, the new signing brings experience from the 2. Bundesliga and will quickly integrate into the team.
Sickinger is also looking forward to his new role: "I am excited to wear the lily on my chest in the future. In the discussions, I quickly realized that the club, with its family atmosphere, fits my ideas very well."
Experience from Kaiserslautern, Sandhausen and Elversberg
Born in Karlsruhe, he was trained in the youth academies of SV Sandhausen and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, where he also received his first professional contract. He made 94 competitive appearances for the Kaiserslautern first team and even wore the captain's armband on occasion.
Sickinger moved to Sandhausen in 2021. Just six months later, he joined SV Elversberg , initially on loan, before signing him permanently. The right-footed player made a total of 115 competitive appearances and celebrated three promotions – most recently Elversberg's first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga.
With this signing, coach Florian Kohfeldt gains another option for the defensive midfield and a player with extensive experience in German professional football.
