Social worker Stefan Wennmacher focuses on co-determination
The municipal children's and youth services of the municipality of Seeheim-Jugenheim are launching new programs for children and young people.
Since the beginning of the year, social worker Stefan Wennmacher has been heading up the municipality's child and youth services. After an initial training period, the first open drop-in sessions are now starting.
Open meeting starts in Sandstraße
Starting Tuesday, May 26th, an open meeting for children and young people aged ten and over will take place every Tuesday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the children's and youth center in Sandstraße.
Shortly thereafter, the youth center in Ober-Beerbach also reopened.
Two kick-off days with retro gaming and role-playing are scheduled there on June 13th and 14th.
Young people should be able to help design spaces themselves
A particular focus of Stefan Wennmacher's work is on participation and co-determination.
The youth center in Ober-Beerbach has already undergone extensive modernization and been furnished. However, Wennmacher wants to develop the future design and use of the rooms together with the young people themselves.
"From the color to the content, they should make the whole thing their own space," explains the social worker.
Retro gaming and live role-playing games planned
During the kick-off event, young people can try out old game consoles from several decades.
In the adjacent community hall, board games and so-called live action role playing are also planned, in which participants portray their own game pieces.
The offers are initially aimed at young people aged twelve and over.
Further projects already planned
The trained carpenter also incorporates craft activities into his work with children and young people. Plans include a collaboration with the SONNE workshop during the summer holidays.
Wennmacher previously worked for the German Red Cross, where he managed, among other things, a youth center.
He was pleased that Seeheim-Jugenheim continued to invest specifically in children's and youth work despite many austerity measures in other municipalities.
