Fiber optic expansion, cemetery and daycare centers in focus
Numerous municipal issues were the focus of a public meeting in the Goddelau district of Riedstadt. Mayor Marcus Kretschmann provided information on current developments in the town hall's council chamber and answered questions from the residents.
Fiber optic rollout sparks debate
A key topic was the stalled fiber optic rollout in Goddelau. According to the mayor, the town is in contact with the company Deutsche Glasfaser. However, since the rollout is being financed privately, the municipality has only limited influence.
The delays are due, among other things, to difficulties in finding suitable civil engineering companies. In other districts such as Crumstadt, Erfelden and Wolfskehlen, the work is already largely complete, while it has stalled in Goddelau.
Cemetery development and more green spaces
Another point of discussion was the possible establishment of tree grove burials at the cemetery in Goddelau. Mayor Kretschmann pointed out that, according to a resolution passed by the city council, this type of burial is only permitted at the cemetery in Leeheim.
However, additional trees are to be planted in the Goddelau cemetery in the future, and existing areas are to be converted into green spaces. This is based on a resolution from 2023.
English is not planned for kindergartens
The introduction of English language programs in municipal daycare centers was discussed as a topic submitted in advance. The mayor explained that such a program was not compatible with the educational concept of the facilities.
