From November 13th to 16th, six events, masterclasses and a guitar exhibition are on the program
The 27th Darmstadt Guitar Days will bring internationally renowned guitarists to Darmstadt from November 13th to 16th, 2026. The opening concert on Friday will feature Yamandu Costa, one of Brazil's most outstanding guitar virtuosos. The musician is known for his virtuosic interpretations of South American music. Further highlights include concerts with Polish guitarist Mateusz Kowalski, festival founder Tilman Hoppstock, and the French-Korean duo Antoine Boyer and Yeore Kim. The venues are the Justus Liebig House and St. Thomas Church.
Darmstadt Guitar Days with six events
The opening performance on Friday, November 13th, will be given by Yamandu Costa, who has become internationally known for his South American guitar artistry.
On Saturday, November 14th, the young Polish guitarist Mateusz Kowalski, winner of the second European Bach Guitar Award, will perform. Also on Saturday, at 5 pm, Olaf Van Gonnissen will give a practical lecture entitled "Magical Guitars – A Journey Through History".
Tilman Hoppstock will perform a solo concert on Saturday evening. The guitarist and founder of the Darmstadt Guitar Days celebrated his 50th stage anniversary in 2025.
Guitar exhibition and final concert
On Sunday afternoon, November 15th, a guitar exhibition will take place, where eight instruments will be presented and demonstrated.
The French-Korean duo Antoine Boyer and Yeore Kim will provide the musical finale to the festival. Their unusual combination of guitar and harmonica adds another unique touch to the program.
The six events are complemented by public masterclasses with various guitarists.
The Darmstadt Guitar Days were founded in 1998 by Prof. Dr. Tilman Hoppstock. What began with three concerts in St. Martin's Church and a masterclass has developed into a regularly held festival. Since its inception, the festival has featured around 130 concerts, lectures, and guitar exhibitions. It is organized by the Darmstadt Guitar Days Association (Verein Darmstädter Gitarrentage e.V.), with Hoppstock serving as the festival's director.
