Rides, activities and holiday breakfast on the Ferris wheel
The annual spring fair in the science city of Darmstadt is running until May 3rd. A large festival area with rides, market stalls, and food stalls has once again been set up on Karolinenplatz and Friedensplatz.
Visitors can expect a classic fairground program with attractions such as a Ferris wheel, breakdancer and numerous other offerings for children, families and adults.
Folk festival as a cultural event
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasizes the significance of the event beyond its purely recreational value. The spring fair also represents a vibrant cultural heritage: The fairground culture at folk festivals in Germany was included in the nationwide register of intangible cultural heritage in 2026. At the same time, Darmstadt demonstrates how formats like the fair and "Darmstadt Mobil" complement each other effectively and contribute to revitalizing the city center.
Activities for families and visitors
A special event is "Childhood Heroes Day" on Thursday, April 30, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On this day, characters like Bibi and Tina or the Care Bears will take center stage. Visitors in costume will receive two rides for the price of one.
On Friday, May 1st, a holiday breakfast will also be offered on the Ferris wheel. In addition to the view over the city center, there will be culinary offerings from the Darmstadt Showmen's Association.

The spring fair will take place from April 24th to May 3rd, 2026:
- Sunday to Thursday: 12 pm to 10 pm (until 9 pm on May 3rd)
