More parking spaces and safe cycle lanes ensure better traffic flow
The City of Darmstadt has announced that the work to reorganize Dieburger Straße between Wolfskehlstraße and the section heading out of town has been completed. The aim of the project was to reduce conflicts over road use and increase traffic safety for all road users.
More parking space and better cycling infrastructure
As part of the redesign, the roadway was restructured. On the north side of the street, approximately 45 additional parking spaces were created through newly marked parallel parking spaces. At the same time, the cycle lanes were widened, continuously marked, and made more visible.
The streetscape was also visually reorganized through a uniform core carriageway width as well as supplementary hatched areas and guiding elements.
Goal: Fewer conflicts in the streetscape
With this measure, the city is responding to previous conflicts over the use of space by cars, bicycles, and pedestrians. The new design aims to reduce the speed of motorized traffic and promote safer coexistence.
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey explained on site that Dieburger Straße serves as an exemplary model for a balanced approach to diverse traffic needs. More parking for residents and safe cycle lanes are not contradictory, but rather part of well-thought-out traffic planning.
Contribution to greater road safety
Especially in densely populated neighborhoods, a clear street layout is crucial to avoid conflicts and increase safety. The redesign of Dieburger Straße is intended to provide a concrete example of this.
