Weiterstadt reacts to severe drought and asks for special caution
Due to the ongoing drought and high risk of forest fires, the city of Weiterstadt suspended all planned mulching work until further notice. This is due to the current forest fire danger level 4, which, according to forecasts, could even rise to the highest level 5 in the coming days.
According to the city, mulching operations pose an increased fire risk. The rapidly rotating rollers of the machines can generate sparks upon contact with stones or metal parts. Combined with the dry vegetation, this can be enough to ignite a wildfire.
Fire near the Braunshardt community center
The city reports that the reality of this danger was recently demonstrated: a fire broke out on state road L3094 near the Braunshardt community center . However, the fire department was able to quickly bring the blaze under control
The city offers behavioral tips
The city administration is appealing to all citizens to be especially careful. This includes, among other things, the following rules:
- Do not throw cigarette butts or other smoldering objects out of the car.
- Do not park vehicles on dry grass, as hot vehicle parts can cause fires.
- In case of smoke or fire, immediately call the emergency number 112 .
Mulching work will only resume once the risk of forest fires has significantly decreased.
