Vocal Ensemble Darmstadt presents a memorial concert as part of the Darmstadt Organ Weeks
The Darmstadt Vocal Ensemble will perform Duruflé's Requiem at St. Ludwig Church in Darmstadt on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This memorial concert, part of the Darmstadt Organ Weeks, commemorates the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. At 5:30 p.m., the musical director, Jorin Sandau, will give an introduction to the work.
The centerpiece of the program is the Requiem by the French composer Maurice Duruflé. Similar to Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, the work is characterized by tranquil and consoling melodies. The program is complemented by instrumental pieces and "Plainscapes" by Peteris Vasks for choir and strings.

The Darmstadt Vocal Ensemble will sing. Lars-Simon Sokola will play the organ. Soloists include Sonja Haub (mezzo-soprano), Ingo de Haas (violin), and Isang Enders (cello).
Jorin Sandau will explain the background of the Duruflé Requiem in his introductory talk starting at 5:30 p.m. The concert will then begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Darmstadt Organ Weeks are held in cooperation with the city of Darmstadt and as part of the South Hesse Cultural Summer. They are funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and supported by the Savings Banks Cultural Foundation of Hesse and Thuringia.
