Seeheim fire brigade trains together with 200 emergency personnel
The Seeheim volunteer fire department participated in a cross-district forest fire exercise in the Bickenbach forest on April 18th. Around 200 emergency personnel from the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Bergstraße, and Groß-Gerau, as well as from Darmstadt, jointly practiced fighting a large-scale forest fire.
Firefighting helicopter uses stadium in Seeheim
A particular focus of the exercise was the use of a firefighting helicopter. It repeatedly used the Christian-Stock-Stadium to take on water.
The assessment examined whether the stadium is suitable as a permanent water source for fighting forest fires. According to the fire department, the location offers ideal conditions for future operations due to its central position, good accessibility, and existing water supply.
Seeheimer Wehr ensures fire water supply
The Seeheim fire department was on site with four vehicles and 17 personnel. Their task was to ensure a sufficient water supply for firefighting.
This poses a particular challenge in the case of forest fires, as there are no fire hydrants in the forest. Therefore, water often has to be transported via tanker trucks or long hose lines.
Cooperation across district borders
For the Seeheim fire department, such large-scale exercises are an important part of their training. Among other things, they practiced the cooperation of different emergency services, operational command, and the handling of equipment under realistic conditions.
