Free comic books for children and teenagers starting in May
The municipal library in Bickenbach is once again participating in the nationwide Free Comic Book Day. Following last year's success, comic fans can look forward to a wide selection of free comics again in 2026.
Comics as an introduction to reading
Comics offer children and young people an easy entry point to the world of reading. On Free Comic Book Day, which traditionally takes place on the second Saturday in May in numerous bookstores, comic shops, and libraries, specially produced comics are distributed free of charge.
The Bickenbach municipal library distributed over 150 comic books last year. Many families discovered new favorite series or found their first introduction to reading.
Wide selection thanks to support
In 2026, a wide selection will also be available: a total of 22 different titles will be offered, including well-known series such as The Smurfs, Batman or The Mandalorian.
The initiative is made possible by the support of a local company that finances the purchase of the comic books.
Distribution during opening hours
From May 11, 2026, interested parties can pick up to three comic books per person free of charge at the library during regular opening hours – while stocks last.
The opening hours are:
Monday from 4 pm to 6 pm,
Wednesday from 4 pm to 7 pm
Contribution to reading promotion
Mayor Markus Hennemann emphasizes the importance of such initiatives for promoting reading. The municipal library is thus making a significant contribution to cultural education and creating an attractive offering for families.
