Around 260 schoolchildren and 50 other volunteers are participating in the district-wide campaign
With great dedication, students, kindergarten families, and numerous volunteers in Reinheim worked to clean up the environment. As part of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district's "Clean Landscape" campaign, they collected carelessly discarded trash in nature, along roadsides, and in public areas. The Dr. Kurt Schumacher School alone participated with approximately 260 students. Another 50 volunteers were active around the Ueberau kindergarten.
This year's county-wide litter collection campaign took place from September 26th to October 24th, 2026. The town of Reinheim once again participated in the initiative, which aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of littering and promote responsible stewardship of nature.
260 students collect trash
As early as Thursday, October 1st, around 260 students from the Dr. Kurt-Schumacher-School set out to collect carelessly discarded waste.
They were supported by their teachers, First City Councillor Rainer Lauterbacher and Ms. Heckler from the city's Department of Environment and Climate.
Together they cleaned up various areas, removing litter and contributing to a cleaner cityscape. At the same time, the initiative provided an opportunity to raise awareness among young people about environmental pollution and the importance of responsible waste management.
Ueberau Kindergarten braves the rain
The Ueberau kindergarten also participated in the cleanup. On Saturday, October 17th, around 50 volunteers set about clearing the area around the facility of litter.
The participants were not deterred by the rainy weather. Parents, citizens, and First City Councillor Rainer Lauterbacher all pitched in.
The campaign showed that even under difficult weather conditions, much can be achieved when people work together for their environment.
Mayor Feick thanks the volunteers
Mayor Manuel Feick praised the commitment of those involved and emphasized the importance of such community actions for the city.
“I am delighted by the commitment of the students, the kindergarten families, and all the other volunteers. They are taking responsibility for our city and showing that together we can make a difference. My sincere thanks for that,” Feick explained.
By participating, the volunteers not only contributed to cleanliness, but also set an example of shared responsibility.
ZAW provides equipment
To ensure that the waste collectors could work safely and well-equipped, the Zweckverband Abfall- und Wertstoffeinsammlung für den Landkreis Darmstadt-Dieburg (ZAW) provided gloves, garbage bags and high-visibility vests.
As a thank you, each participant also received a small token of appreciation.
The municipal building yard also played an important role. Its employees collected the filled garbage bags and ensured the proper disposal of the collected waste.
The city of Reinheim sees the campaign as a successful example of cooperation between educational institutions, volunteers and municipal employees.
