The swimming pool will be closed from December 13th to February 28th – work on the roof structure and pool piping is planned
The Weiterstadt indoor swimming pool will be closed from December 13, 2026, through February 28, 2027. This is due to renovation work on parts of the roof structure and the pool's piping. According to the city, the work must begin in 2026 to qualify for funding from a state program.
During the approximately two-and-a-half-month closure, the concrete supports of the roof structure will be renovated and the entire pool piping will be renewed.
Concrete restoration precedes roof work
According to the city, the renovation of the concrete beams is necessary for structural reasons and must be carried out before the complete renovation of the indoor swimming pool roof planned for 2027 .
The indoor swimming pool will not need to be closed for the subsequent work on the roof itself. However, the city has announced another closure for maintenance work in the summer of 2027. The announcement does not specify how long this closure will last.
Mayor Niklas Gehnich explains that the scheduling took into account factors such as school holidays and the mid-year change, in order to minimize the impact on schools, clubs and other users.
Funding requires construction to begin in 2026
Another role is played by the state program "SWIM". According to Gehnich, around 30 percent of the total cost of the renovation measures financed through the program.
The funding is contingent on the work starting in 2026. "We have to begin the project in the 2026 fiscal year, otherwise the funding will be lost and cannot be reapplied for," the mayor explained.
The closure affects not only regular bathers but also schools, clubs and other user groups.
