The city of Darmstadt will provide information about new green spaces and paths on November 2nd
How will the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts in Darmstadt develop? What changes are planned around the community center, and what will happen to the former industrial railway tracks? The City of Darmstadt will provide information about these and other projects on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the eighth "PaMo – Get Involved" public dialogue. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the Pallaswiesen district community center at Kirschenallee 180.
The focus is on the progress in the urban development area "Social Cohesion – Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts". Residents can learn about the current status of the measures, ask questions, and contribute their own suggestions for the further development of their neighborhood.
Community center as the new focal point of the neighborhood
An important step in the development of the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts was already achieved in January 2026. Following a comprehensive energy-efficient renovation and structural expansion, the community center at Kirschenallee 180 was reopened.
The renovations created additional spaces for meetings, consultations, education, and cultural activities. Accessibility was also improved; the building now features barrier-free entrances and an elevator.
This means the community center offers new opportunities for social and cultural life in the neighborhood.
New play areas, green spaces and seating
Following the building's renovation, its surroundings are now also being redesigned. Work on the outdoor facilities began at the end of June 2026 and covers an area of approximately 2,575 square meters.
Plans include new play and recreation areas, additional seating, and an upgrade of the existing football pitch.
Another focus is on greening. New tree plantings and the partial unsealing of surfaces are intended to improve the microclimate.
The planning process takes into account both accessibility and wishes and suggestions that citizens have submitted in previous participation processes.
The redesign aims to make the area around the community center a more attractive place for people in the neighborhood to spend time.
Former industrial railway tracks are being converted into a pedestrian connection
Another topic of the public dialogue is the further development of the route along the former industrial railway lines.
The historical route is to be preserved as part of Darmstadt's industrial history and at the same time developed into an attractive pedestrian connection within the district.
In this way, the city combines the preservation of historical structures with a contemporary use of public space.
The training department of the city's green spaces office is among those involved in the work.
Citizen participation remains an important component
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz, Head of Green Spaces Michael Kolmer and Head of Planning Paul Georg Wandrey emphasize the importance of local participation.
“The development of PaMo depends on the participation of the people who live and work here,” the three city council members jointly explain.
By upgrading green spaces and strengthening historical paths, the district should gradually become more attractive and resilient to the effects of climate change.
This is not just about structural changes, but also about the social development of the district.
Those in charge therefore want to continue to take suggestions from the population and jointly advance urban, ecological and social development.
At the eighth citizens' dialogue, the people from the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts will once again have the opportunity to contribute their experiences and ideas directly to this process.
