Action day at Peace Square launches campaign “Germany divides”
The municipal enterprise for public services and tasks is participating, together with the dual systems, in the nationwide campaign "Germany Divides". The campaign kicks off with an action day on Saturday, June 6th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Friedensplatz (Peace Square).
Staff provide information on the correct separation of waste and the importance of functioning recycling cycles.
Incorrect waste makes recycling more difficult
City treasurer André Schellenberg points to problems with waste separation.
“Around 30 percent of the waste collected in the recycling bins does not belong there and makes it difficult or impossible to recycle used packaging,” explains Schellenberg.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of proper waste separation and to improve the recycling of raw materials.
Further activities in schools, zoo and university
Between June 8th and 12th, the EAD is offering additional waste management consultations in daycare centers and schools. Interested institutions can register by email.
On Wednesday, June 10th, an action day with a waste sorting game is planned at the Vivarium Zoo in Darmstadt. Two days later, the EAD (Waste Management Authority) will provide information on proper waste separation at the high-rise building of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
Guided tours of the sorting plant in Gernsheim
On June 15th and 16th, the EAD is also organizing guided tours of the MEILO recycling sorting plant in Gernsheim. Participation is free of charge, and each tour is limited to a maximum of ten people.
Registrations are possible online via ztix.de for the viewing on June 15th and June 16th.
Nationwide campaign with over 500 events
The "Germany Separates" initiative is organized by "Waste Separation Works". More than 500 events and information sessions are planned nationwide between June 6th and 21st.
