By the end of the year, new tree planting sites will be created in streets and green spaces. Existing planting beds will be enlarged.
New trees are to provide additional shade on overheated streets in Griesheim. As part of the "Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities" (NKK) project, several plantings are planned throughout the town by the end of the year. According to the town, the project is 90 percent funded, with the municipality covering the remaining 10 percent.
New trees in the climate-friendly neighborhood
In Martin-Luther-Straße, the planting of another tree and the enlargement of the existing planting bed have been planned since October 26th. Four additional trees are to be planted in Hofmannstraße. The preparatory excavation work there is expected to take place from November 9th to 27th.
Tree locations are also being improved outside the climate-friendly neighborhood. Between October 26 and November 13, individual planting beds on Berliner Straße and Lindenstraße will be enlarged. At the corner of Daniel-Müller-Straße and Ostend, the existing advertising column will be removed to make room for a tree.
Plantings in green spaces and cemeteries
Two trees each are to be planted in the cemetery, the old churchyard and in the small green area near the Draustraße daycare center between November 2nd and 6th.
Further plantings are planned for November in the green space on Elbestraße and on Anne-Frank-Straße. The tree-lined avenue along the noise barrier in the southwest residential area will also be planted at that time.
Last winter, the city conducted a public survey regarding the green space on Elbestraße. Eighty-five percent of participants supported planting trees on the site. The results were incorporated into the site selection process. This will ensure that areas where children can play soccer or badminton are preserved.
Temporary restrictions due to construction work
During the work, there may be local traffic disruptions and dirt on roads and sidewalks. The contracted companies are expected to keep these disruptions to a minimum.
