Two city employees injured – city considers reopening and increases security measures
Following a physical attack on two employees, the Griesheim outdoor swimming pool will remain closed until further notice. The incident occurred on Sunday (June 28) between 5 and 6 p.m. Two municipal employees were injured. It is currently unclear when the pool will be able to reopen.
According to the city of Griesheim, the two employees were injured in the attack. No information is currently available regarding their condition or the expected duration of their absence. Since sufficient staffing for lifeguard duties must first be ensured, the city cannot yet provide a reopening date.
Police calmed the situation
The situation was brought under control after the incident by staff of the outdoor swimming pool, security personnel, and the police, who had been alerted. According to current information, approximately 15 men in their mid to late twenties were involved in the attack. Two people were taken into custody by the police, and others were issued with a ban from the premises and ordered to leave the swimming pool.
Despite the incident, the outdoor swimming pool closed as usual at 8 pm.
The city plans to further expand security measures
According to the city, a security service was already in place at the outdoor swimming pool before the incident, and its staffing levels had previously been increased. In response to the events, the security service will now be further reinforced.
At the same time, the city is actively recruiting additional staff and adjusting duty rosters to resume swimming operations as quickly as possible. A prerequisite for this is sufficient staffing for lifeguard duties.
The city of Griesheim was stunned by the attack and is currently examining further measures to increase security at the outdoor swimming pool.
