The chess club SV 1946 Groß-Gerau eV on Saturday, November 8, 2025.the first Groß-Gerau district school chess tournamentAll students born in 2007 or later, divided into three age groups:
- WK I: Primary school students
- World War II: Grades 5 to 7
- WK III: Grades 8 to 10
Tournament at the Goethe School in Groß-Gerau
The tournament begins at 10:00 AM at the Goethe School in the district capital. Rapid chess with a time control of 15 minutes per game; a total of five rounds played. The top three finishers in each age group will receive a trophy.
Registrations are possible via email to turnier@schach-gg.de, stating the age group.
- Free for registrations until November 1, 2025
- Entry fee 5 euros for on-site registration (until 10:00 am)

Exciting autumn tournament for the city championship
The Groß-Gerau Open City Championship was once again held this autumn in the Old District Court . The field was limited to 30 players, and the decision was incredibly close:
all three top finishers achieved four points out of five rounds.
won on tiebreaks, Günter Wagner ahead of Andreas Bonsen (both from SV 1946 Groß-Gerau).
came in third Emmannouil Vergopoulos from SV 1929 Raunheim.
In the youth categories, Erik Zacharias (U18) and Felix Pauwels (U14), also from the local club, took first place.
The special prize for players with a rating below 1400 went to Christoph Pauwels.
Chess training for interested parties
Anyone who wants to play chess is welcome at SV 1946 Groß-Gerau:
- Chess evening: Fridays from 7:00 pm
- Youth training: Saturdays from 1 p.m.
