Project week “Grünhausen” in Seeheim-Jugenheim
At the Bergstraße school complex in Seeheim-Jugenheim, the school grounds were transformed into a small town for one week. Under the name "Grünhausen," the primary school became a vibrant community with its own administration, currency, and numerous jobs from May 4th to 8th.
Children take on responsibility
More than 250 students took on different roles: They elected a mayor, worked in the city council and pursued various professions.
Payment was made with the specially introduced currency "Grüno". Those who worked received wages and could then spend them on the various offerings of the city.
Learning through one's own actions
The project week playfully taught the children the basics of economics, responsibility, and community life. They learned how work, trade, and community organization function.
The facilities included a bakery, a yoga studio, a bicycle repair shop, a cinema, and the school's own radio station "Echo Grünhausen".
Support from parents and school
The project was made possible by the support of numerous parents who participated as caregivers and as those responsible for the various work areas.
Head of the school branch Heiko Baum emphasized the importance of the project week for the personal development of the children and highlighted how committed the students were in taking on responsibility.
Closing party at the end of the project week
The week concluded with a joint celebration on May 8th, where the children presented their city once again and looked back on the eventful week.
The "Grünhausen" project week only takes place every four years and is considered a special part of school life at the Bergstraße school village.
