Readings at the hunting lodge combine literature, music, and history
The event series “Culture in the Castle” attracted numerous visitors to the Bickenbach hunting lodge complex on May 10th.
According to the organizers, around 60 guests attended the two readings. The varied program and the special atmosphere of the historic site were particularly praised.
Mayor opens cultural events
Mayor Markus Hennemann gave the welcoming address and introduction.
He emphasized the importance of cultural events at the hunting lodge and expressed his delight at the great interest in the series.
Music and literature in the morning
The opening event was presented by author Ernst Spangenberg together with the band De Roode Pelikan.
Accompanied by chansons, klezmer and tangos, Spangenberg read from his work "Admonition of a Raspberry to its Young".
Visitors experienced a mix of humorous, philosophical and poetic texts, complemented by musical contributions.
Historical insights during a teatime reading
In the afternoon, the Englishwoman Anne Lister was the focus of another reading.
The angelist Claudia Stehle presented the life of the historical figure, who is considered extraordinary, and presented selected diary passages in English as well as German translation.
The explanation of the secret code developed by Anne Lister, which was used to encrypt personal content, aroused particular interest.
The series is firmly established in cultural life
The positive response, according to the organizers, once again demonstrated that "Culture in the Castle" has established itself as an integral part of cultural life in Bickenbach.
