Three information events planned in the north, central and south starting on June 11th
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, will be holding three public events in June and July to inform the public about the new heavy rainfall hazard maps, which were commissioned by the city and prepared by the engineering firm Dahlem Beratende Ingenieure . The aim is to inform citizens about local flood risks and appropriate protective measures. The series begins with an event on Wednesday, June 11, at the Muckerhaus in Arheilgen.

The maps presented show where flooding is expected in Darmstadt in the event of extreme rainfall. The events focus on concrete measures for heavy rain preparedness, for example in private residential areas. At four themed tables, visitors can learn about personal preparedness, municipal measures, early warning systems , and crisis management also cisterns, green roofs, de-sealing of surfaces , and natural gardens be presented.
Climate officer Michael Kolmer emphasizes:
“Climate change is increasingly bringing with it extreme weather events. To minimize the dangers for the population, we must act together – the city, businesses and civil society.”
In addition to protection against flooding, many of the recommended measures offer further benefits, such as promoting biodiversity, cooling the residential environment , and financial savings, for example through reduced stormwater fees.
