New benches and a ball maze enhance the quality of the stay
The shoreline of Hegbachsee lake in Nauheim has been expanded to include several new recreational and leisure facilities. With two new extra-large benches and a multi-generational marble maze, the municipality has significantly enhanced this popular local recreation area.
Mayor Marc Friedrich and project manager Jennifer Giesa are pleased with the implementation of the measures, which are now available to walkers and those seeking recreation. The aim is to further improve the quality of life at Hegbachsee and to create additional opportunities for socializing, relaxation, and playing together.
Prize money from state competition enables implementation
The new initiatives stem from the "Action Generation – Strengthening Local Families" competition organized by the Hessian Ministry for Family, Seniors, Sport, Health and Care. The municipality of Nauheim won €6,000 in prize money in 2024 with its project "Knowledge Strengthens, Activity Invigorates and Community Connects.".
In autumn 2025, citizens were actively involved in the planning process through a comprehensive survey. They were able to submit suggestions for new amenities at Hegbachsee.
Citizens' wishes were directly incorporated into the planning
The survey results revealed clear priorities. Additional interactive activities, quiet areas, and an inclusive picnic area were mentioned most frequently. The newly installed XL benches and the ball maze address these wishes.
While the wide benches invite people to linger together, the ball labyrinth promotes intergenerational play and experiences on the lakeshore.
Further projects already planned
The municipality thanks all citizens who participated in the survey. Planning for further measures is already underway. Nauheim also participated again in the "Action Generation – Strengthening Local Families" competition in 2026.
Furthermore, the municipality is currently seeking funding from the Regional Equalization Fund to implement another installation in the shore area of the Hegbachsee lake.
