The school and training pool will temporarily become a training facility
New training opportunities are available for the BMX scene in Darmstadt: The former school and training pool on Heinrich-Fuhr-Straße in the Woogsviertel district is being temporarily used as an indoor training facility. This is made possible through a cooperation between the city and the Velociped-Club Darmstadt.
This gives the club its first training facility for the winter months. Previously, the bike park in the Bürgerpark was an important meeting place for the scene, but an indoor alternative was lacking.
Temporary use until planned demolition
Since the building's demolition is still delayed, the city's sports department and the club have explored temporary uses for the space. The result is an indoor park that will serve as a training facility for club and association-organized BMX sports.
The city and the club have signed a lease agreement that will remain in effect until the building's planned demolition. The facility is exclusively for organized training and is not open to the public.
The ramps and jumps are planned and built by the club itself. The club covers all costs, so there are no additional expenses for the city.
Support from the Darmstadt sports scene
The mayor and sports officer Hanno Benz, the club chairman Stefan Seyfried and Marc König as national coach of BMX freestyle were present at the presentation of the project.
"VC Darmstadt is demonstrating once again the high level of commitment and initiative within our local sports scene," explained Mayor Benz. Together, they found a pragmatic solution to allow the athletes to train at a high level even during the winter months.
Perspective with new roller sports hall
In the long term, BMX sports in Darmstadt should have a permanent indoor training opportunity with the planned roller sports hall in the Bürgerpark.
The importance of good training conditions is also demonstrated by the club's sporting successes: Philipp Muth of VC Darmstadt became German Champion at the 2025 German Championships in Darmstadt. Since BMX freestyle is now an Olympic discipline, the new training facility opens up additional opportunities for international competitions.
