The International Street Theatre Festival takes place from July 29th to August 1st
When squares, parks, and streets become stages, it's street theatre time again in Darmstadt. From July 29 to August 1, 2026, the Just for Fun Street Theatre Festival invites you to its 33rd edition of international open-air performances. Artists from several countries will present contemporary circus, acrobatics, juggling, aerial arts, music, and comedy at various locations throughout the city.
The festival was founded in 1994 by Darmstadt theater producers Iris Daßler and Rainer Bauer and is now a fixture on the cultural calendar of the city of science. Each year, the festival attracts several thousand visitors and makes culture freely accessible in public spaces.
To kick things off on Wednesday, July 29th, Finnish artists Lotta & Stina will perform their acrobatic show "Just an Ordinary Day" at the adventure playground in Herrngarten. The opening program will be complemented by the juggling and circus act "Hats 2 Heads" from Keeping Company.
On Thursday, July 30, the production “The Walking Ballroom” will take place at Riegerplatz, before the artist group Los Hobos and the Dutch duo Zinzi & Evertjan perform at Johannesplatz on Friday, July 31.
Saturday is dedicated to an event day in the city center around the White Tower. Among others, aerial artist Jana Korb, the comedy group Los Hobos, and Berlin artist Arthur with his acrobatic cargo bike show will be performing.
The festival concludes on Saturday evening with a grand gala on Friedensplatz featuring artists from the day's program.
Street theatre even after the festival
Following the festival, the "Just for Fun Express" continues the concept of street theatre. Using mobile stage equipment and cargo bikes, performances are brought to various neighborhoods and the surrounding region. The premiere of this year's program will take place on August 7, 2026, on the open-air stage of the Theater Moller Haus.
