The local community forum, youth services, daycare center and castle school are reviving an old tradition – proceeds support social projects
An old tradition has been revived in Gräfenhausen: The Kerbcafé in the courtyard of the Alte Schlossschule daycare center reopened its doors for this year's village fair. After the fair parade, numerous visitors took the opportunity to enjoy coffee and homemade cake together and bring the festive weekend to a pleasant close.
The revival of the Kerb café is the result of an initiative by the Gräfenhausen district forum. The idea was implemented in cooperation with the Weiterstadt youth services, parents of the Schlossschule (Castle School), and the Alte Schlossschule (Old Castle School) daycare center.
Together for an old tradition
As early as the middle of the year, the proposal to revive the traditional Kerbcafé was raised in the Gräfenhausen district forum.
The district forum is a committee of the Weiterstadt city council's education advisory board and brings together various institutions, organizations, and committed individuals in the district. Its aim is to initiate joint projects and promote local cooperation.
Numerous supporters were found for the relaunch of the Kerbcafé, who together took over the organization and execution.
Large crowds at the coffee and cake stand
The courtyard of the Alte Schlossschule daycare center was bustling with activity on a sunny autumn day. Between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., visitors enjoyed a wide selection of homemade cakes and muffins. Coffee and hot chocolate were also available at family-friendly prices.
A team of young people and staff from the youth center, as well as helpers from the daycare center and school, took care of sales and the guests.
Numerous parents also participated in the event. They helped with setting up and taking down the equipment, took on organizational tasks, and contributed cakes.
The Kerweborsch Gräfenhausen had included the Kerbcafé in the Kerb program, thus supporting the revival of the tradition.
Proceeds benefit social projects
The Kerbcafé is intended not only to be remembered as a community event, but also to support various local projects.
Part of the proceeds will go to the support association of the Schlossschule (Castle School) and to the Old School youth center.
Further proceeds will be donated to the Keller Ranch. The participating young people would like to use the money to support an animal sponsorship.
A joint visit to the Keller Ranch is planned. There, the young people will choose an animal for which they would then like to take on a sponsorship.
With the successful relaunch of the Kerbcafé, the participants have shown how a local tradition can be revived through joint commitment while simultaneously supporting social projects.
