For an exhibition commemorating the city's anniversary in 2027, the cultural office is seeking historical photographs from all five districts – originals will be returned
What was life like in Riedstadt 50 years ago? What festivals were celebrated, how did people dress, and how have the five districts changed since then? To mark the 50th anniversary of the Büchner city of Riedstadt next year, the municipal cultural office is seeking historical photographs from the founding year of 1977.
The photos will be presented as part of a photo exhibition celebrating the town's anniversary. Photographs from Crumstadt, Erfelden, Goddelau, Leeheim, and Wolfskehlen are being sought that offer a glimpse into life at that time.
Five municipalities merged to form Riedstadt in 1977
In 1977, as part of the Hessian regional reform, the new municipality of Riedstadt was formed from the five previously independent municipalities of Crumstadt, Erfelden, Goddelau, Leeheim and Wolfskehlen.
This event will mark its 50th anniversary in 2027. The town of Büchner plans to celebrate the anniversary with a festival weekend from June 11th to 13th, 2027. The planned events will include an exhibition that will bring the founding year to life through historical photographs.
We are looking for pictures from everyday life and of special events
The cultural office is hoping for public support for the exhibition. Anyone who still has photo albums or individual photos from 1977 is invited to make them available.
It doesn't have to be exclusively pictures of official events or special historical occasions. Private photographs, in particular, can show how people lived back then and how the neighborhoods have changed over the decades.
We are looking for photos of events such as school enrollments, church celebrations, club and street festivals, or sporting events.
Pictures from everyday life are also welcome: from the fashion of the time to leisure activities and professional life, as well as streets, buildings and townscapes.
Historical photos are being digitized and returned
Those who provide the cultural office with historical images do not have to permanently part with their mementos.
The submitted photographs will be scanned for the planned exhibition and then returned to their owners. The originals will thus be preserved.
With the photo exhibition, the city wants to make the history of Riedstadt visible from the perspective of the people who experienced the founding year themselves.
