Clubs, leisure activities and social contacts as important building blocks
The most recent Malch Talks focused on the question of what children and young people need for healthy development today. Particular emphasis was placed on the increasing influence of smartphones, social media, and digital services on the everyday lives of young people.
The participants expressed the view that many children and young people have too little social contact and exercise in their daily lives. This can have a negative impact on their mental health. Therefore, programs that promote community, activities, and personal interaction are all the more important.
Leisure activities as an alternative
Clubs and other group activities were mentioned as important alternatives to digital media. Furthermore, Seeheim-Jugenheim offers numerous opportunities for outdoor leisure activities, including playgrounds, the swimming pool, Tannenburg Castle, the network of cycle paths, forest huts, and the youth centers in Seeheim and Ober-Beerbach.
Excursion destinations in the region, such as the Felsenmeer (Sea of Rocks), were also highlighted as attractive leisure opportunities.
Request for a public barbecue hut
During the discussion, the desire for a freely accessible barbecue hut with a playground was also expressed. Participants felt that such a facility could create additional opportunities for families and young people to meet.
Voles rely on community and activity
There was agreement that children need places where they can play together, develop their own ideas, and gain social experience. The Wühlmaus children's and youth groups in Malchen also follow this approach, offering activities for different age groups.
