Up to six expert citizens will support the new commission in construction projects, urban planning and climate adaptation
How should Weiterstadt develop in the coming years? Where will new residential and commercial areas be created, how will public spaces be designed, and what role does climate protection play in urban planning? A new commission for "Urban Development and Design" will address these and other questions. The city of Weiterstadt is seeking up to six knowledgeable citizens who would like to contribute their expertise and experience. Interested individuals can apply now.
The aim of the new commission is to provide expert support for important urban development projects, to develop recommendations and to contribute to a uniform and appealing cityscape in the long term.
Professional support for important urban projects
The development of a city encompasses far more than just the planning of new buildings. The design of public spaces, the further development of existing urban districts, and dealing with the consequences of climate change also play an important role.
This is precisely where the new commission will come in. It will examine selected urban development projects and issues and develop expert recommendations for the city council.
Their tasks include, among other things, the further development of the districts of Weiterstadt, the planning of new residential and commercial sites, and the support of urban construction projects.
The design of public squares, green spaces and open areas will also be a subject of future consultations.
Climate adaptation and greening as important topics
Another focus is on climate-adapted urban design.
This includes, for example, the greening of public spaces and the question of how urban spaces can be prepared for rising temperatures and other effects of climate change.
The commission's remit also includes ensuring a uniform design for so-called street furniture. This includes, for example, benches, waste containers, and other furnishings in public spaces.
By providing expert support for such projects, Weiterstadt aims to promote a coordinated and appealing design of the urban area in the long term.
Up to six knowledgeable citizens are being sought
The city is looking for up to six citizens with relevant expertise and practical experience to work on the project.
This is especially relevant for people from the following fields:
- Urban planning and urban development
- Architecture and Civil Engineering
- Landscape and open space planning
- Design of public spaces and squares
- Climate adaptation and greening in urban environments
Applicants are expected to contribute their knowledge and ideas to the consultations and thus actively participate in the urban development of Weiterstadt.
The city council decides on the appointment
The expert citizens are elected by the city council.
Appointments are made either for a period of two years or on a project basis. This allows experts to be involved in the commission's work both on a long-term basis and for specific urban development projects.
The committee is chaired by the mayor. In addition to expert citizens, it includes members of the city council and representatives of the municipal assembly.
The commission has an advisory function. It develops expert recommendations for selected projects, which can serve as a basis for further decisions by the city council.
