Real-world laboratories are intended to revitalize the city center in summer
Griesheim is among the winners of the Hessian state competition "Ab in die Mitte – Bring wieder Leben in die Stadt" (Get to the Center – Bring Life Back to the City). For its concept to revitalize the city center, the town received prize money of €15,000, the second-highest amount of funding among a total of 19 award-winning municipalities.
Two real-world laboratories planned in the city center
The project focuses on two so-called real-world laboratories, which are to be built in the city center between the end of June and the beginning of September 2026.
Living labs are time-limited test projects in public spaces. They serve to try out new ideas under real-world conditions and to examine their impact.
The planning was based on citizen participation within the framework of various funding programs for inner-city development and climate protection.
Georg-Schüler-Platz will be the meeting point
Georg-Schüler-Platz will be closed to car traffic during the real-world laboratory project. Plans include seating, shade structures, and regular events to create a more inviting and socially inclusive space in the town center.
More space for families and children
A section of Martin-Luther-Straße is also slated for redesign. Traffic calming measures are planned directly in front of the playground. Additional recreational areas for families and children will be created there.
Citizens can participate
The city wants to shape the real-world laboratories together with its citizens. Interested individuals can contribute their own ideas and activities or organize events.
