How should you react if someone suddenly suffers cardiac arrest? This is the topic of a free online lecture on resuscitation on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 7 p.m.Dr. Jens Rothermel, emergency physician at Darmstadt Hospital, will explain the most important steps that first responders can take until the arrival of the emergency medical services.
The focus is on the easy-to-remember sequence "Check. Call. Compress!". The presentation aims to teach how to recognize cardiac arrest, how to call for help, and how to begin resuscitation measures.
Acting quickly can be crucial
According to the hospital, many cases of sudden cardiac arrest occur at home or among friends. It is therefore crucial that anyone present reacts immediately.
"It's worth refreshing your skills, because resuscitation is easier than many people think," says Rothermel. Without action from bystanders, it could already be too late by the time the ambulance and emergency doctor arrive.
In his presentation, the emergency physician therefore also wants to reduce uncertainties and explain the basic resuscitation measures in an understandable way.
