Premieres, an open-air concert and musical theatre will open the 2026/27 season
Under the motto "If so, what then?", the Darmstadt State Theatre is launching its 2026/27 season. Inspired by the Paris exhibition "Renoir and Love", the focus of the new season is on hope, solidarity and the possibility of a positive new beginning.
Opening event with a play and open-air concert
The season kicks off on August 28th with the premiere of Joe Orton's play "Prey." The comedy tells the story of two young bank robbers who hide their loot in the coffin of a deceased woman. That same evening, the traditional open-air concert on Georg-Büchner-Platz will launch the new season, inviting the audience to join in the celebrations.
Musical theatre starts with opera classics
on August 29th with the operas "Cavalleria rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni and "Pagliacci" by Ruggero Leoncavallo. Both works are among the most famous operas of Italian Verismo and tell stories of love, jealousy, betrayal, and the conflict between appearance and reality.
