After narrowly avoiding relegation in 2025, the first team managed to secure promotion to the second-highest league as runners-up in the table
The Gräfenhausen Skat Club has been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The first team finished the season in the 3rd Bundesliga South with a 28 wins and 17 losses, securing second place in the standings and thus promotion. The final fifth match day proved to be a close call.
Just a year earlier, relegation had initially seemed inevitable. At the end of the 2025 season, Gräfenhausen had narrowly missed staying in the league. However, because another club declined its place, the team, consisting of Sascha Dechert, Martina Schmidt, Martin Steiger, Holger Witt, Jürgen Führer, and Andrea Färber, was able to remain in the 3rd Bundesliga.
From staying in the league to promotion
The skat players had a mixed start to the current season. They then worked their way up the table and went into the fifth and final match day as league leaders.
There, Gräfenhausen faced, among others, their direct competitors Skatclub Hochrhein and Skatfreunde Rems-Murr Backnang. However, the day did not go as hoped for Gräfenhausen. The team dropped out of the promotion places and could no longer influence the outcome on their own.
The results of their competitors finally brought about the change: Gräfenhausen moved back into second place in the standings and thus secured promotion.
Hochrhein wins the relay
The Skatclub Hochrhein became champions of the 3rd Bundesliga South with 32:13 points and 58,257 game points. Gräfenhausen followed with 28:17 points and 56,028 game points. The Skatfreunde Rems-Murr Backnang took third place with 27:18 points, followed by SC 61 Heilbronn and 1. SC Dieburg II.
The team then celebrated their promotion at the Dalmacija restaurant in Gräfenhausen. The 75th birthday of long-time club member Hildegard Vowinkel was also celebrated there.
Helmut Veith wins the 37th club evening
At the 37th club evening, Helmut Veith emerged victorious with 1,907 points. He was followed by Silvia Ferch with 1,828 points and Frank Delp with 1,799 points. Michael Krämer achieved 1,627 points, Martin Steiger 1,585 points, and Peter Neumann 1,569 points.
The Skat club meets every Wednesday at 7 pm in the Gamebox, Schneppenhäuser Straße 5 in Weiterstadt. Guests are also welcome to attend.
