Hungarian world music band performs at Agora-Kultur at the Ostbahnhof (East Train Station)
The Hungarian band Söndörgő will be performing at Agora-Kultur at the Ostbahnhof in Darmstadt on Monday, September 28, 2026. The five musicians combine traditional South Slavic and Balkan music with influences from classical, jazz, and rock.
Söndörgő was founded more than 30 years ago. Four of the five members come from the Eredics family of musicians: the brothers Áron, Benjamin, and Salamon Eredics, as well as their cousin Dávid Eredics. The lineup is completed by bassist Ábel Dénes. The band's musical development is closely linked to the legendary Vujicsics Ensemble, which has been dedicated to South Slavic folk music for decades.
Söndörgő's musical trademark includes traditional instruments such as the tambura, kaval, and derbuka. At the same time, the band combines these traditional soundscapes with modern musical forms.
The year 2024 marked a significant artistic milestone with the album "Gyezz," created in collaboration with jazz saxophonist Chris Potter. The album received international acclaim from the music press and reached number one on both the World Music Charts Europe and the Songlines Top of the World charts.
In 2025, Söndörgő celebrated its 30th anniversary with, among other things, a residency at Müpa Budapest. As part of the three-part series "Folk, Classical and Jazz," the band collaborated with various international guest musicians. The live album "In Residence at Müpa," recorded during this residency, is scheduled for release in autumn 2026.
With its combination of South Slavic musical traditions and diverse contemporary influences, Söndörgő understands traditional music not as a static heritage, but as a starting point for new musical developments.
