More than 11,500 vehicles checked – high speeds measured
The South Hesse police have released their report on this year's speed marathon: Numerous speeding violations were detected during extensive checks.
Thousands of vehicles inspected
At a total of 36 measuring points, officers monitored traffic between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Supported by 111 officers and security police, more than 11,500 vehicles were measured.
The police recorded 826 violations. The violation rate was therefore 7.1 percent.
Significant speeding violations on motorways and federal highways
Particularly serious cases were found on the A67 motorway, the B43 federal highway and the A659 motorway, among others.
At the Griesheim interchange, a vehicle significantly exceeded the permitted speed limit of 80 km/h and was clocked at 137 km/h. Another violation occurred on the B 43 near Kelsterbach, where the vehicle was traveling at 113 km/h instead of the permitted 60 km/h.
A driver was also caught speeding at 147 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the A659. In all cases, fines, penalty points on their license, and driving bans are possible.
Appeal for greater road safety
The police emphasize that excessive speed is one of the most frequent causes of serious traffic accidents. The aim of the checks is to increase road safety and prevent accidents.
At the same time, the police thank all road users who abide by the rules and thus contribute to road safety.
