Criminals in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district are targeting high-quality tools
Following a series of thefts from company vehicles in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, police are warning of targeted break-ins into tradespeople's vehicles. The Groß-Zimmern and Dieburg areas have been particularly affected in recent weeks.
According to police, the perpetrators were primarily targeting high-quality tools and equipment. To gain access to the equipment, the criminals sometimes cut open the vehicle's bodywork, thus gaining entry to the interior.
High losses for craft businesses
In addition to the loss of expensive tools, the affected companies often incur additional costs due to damaged vehicles, as well as work stoppages and delays in ongoing orders.
The police point out that tools, machines and technical equipment often represent considerable value and are therefore specifically targeted by thieves.
Police offer tips on how to protect yourself against theft
To reduce the risk of vehicle break-ins, the police recommend, among other things:
- Park vehicles in well-lit and busy places whenever possible
- Always close doors and windows, even for short stops
- Do not leave valuables visibly in the driver's compartment
- Use lockable toolboxes or permanently installed storage compartments
- Marking or engraving tools and equipment
- Serial numbers and individual numbers document
- Check insurance coverage
- Watch out for suspicious persons or vehicles
- Raising employee awareness about theft prevention
Witnesses should come forward
The police are taking the recent incidents seriously and ask both victims and witnesses to report any suspicious observations.
