Volunteers are to help with watering and maintaining the city's green spaces
The town of Reinheim is introducing tree and flowerbed sponsorships and is seeking volunteers. Residents will soon be able to take on the care of a specific tree or planter within the town limits. Those interested can contact the Environmental Department now.
The sponsorships are intended to support the regular watering of trees, especially during extended dry periods and the summer months.
Tree discs can also be planted
The sponsors can also maintain the so-called tree disc, that is, the area around the trunk. This includes, for example, removing trash or unwanted vegetation.
Those who wish can also plant the area with insect-friendly flowers or perennials. However, any major damage or abnormalities to a tree should be reported to the relevant department of the city.
“By sponsoring a tree, citizens can take on concrete responsibility and do something for their immediate surroundings,” explains Mayor Manuel Feick. The city has already gained experience with volunteer environmental sponsorships.
City provides equipment
The new tree and flowerbed sponsorships will be organized similarly to the existing environmental sponsorships. The city will provide the volunteers with the necessary equipment for their work. According to the city, the sponsors are covered by accident and liability insurance through the city council during their service.
The work is done on a voluntary and unpaid basis. The exact terms and conditions and the agreement for the sponsorships are currently being developed by the Environmental Department.
Those interested can register now. The department will inform them as soon as the agreement is finalized and the equipment can be distributed.
