Darmstadt points out grilling ban and increased caution in the forest
The ongoing heat and the lack of rain for weeks continue to create a high risk of forest fires in the region. The city of Darmstadt is therefore once again appealing to all forest visitors to be especially careful and to comply with the applicable safety regulations.
The barbecue area at Oberförsterwiese is particularly affected. To ensure safety in the forest, the city can impose a barbecue ban there at short notice. This is based on the daily updated forest fire danger index of the German Weather Service (DWD). Barbecue bans are issued or lifted depending on the risk level. This may also lead to cancellations of already booked barbecue dates at short notice.
The city warns that even a small spark could ignite a fire on the parched forest floor. Therefore, visitors should check the current fire risk before planning a barbecue.
Furthermore, the city reminds residents to park vehicles only in designated parking areas. Hot exhaust systems or catalytic converters can ignite dry grass and thus cause fires.
It is equally important to keep access roads into the forest clear for fire and rescue services at all times. Anyone who notices a forest fire or smoke should immediately call the emergency number 112. A rapid alert can be crucial in preventing greater damage.
