Health department closes bathing area – sunbathing areas and children's pool remain open
Swimming in the Darmstadt Woog lake has been suspended with immediate effect. As the city of Darmstadt announced, the public health department decided on Thursday morning (June 25) to close access to the water until further notice due to a blue-green algae bloom.
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasizes that the measure serves to protect bathers: "The health and safety of all visitors is our top priority. That is why this precautionary measure is necessary."
Sunbathing areas and children's pool remain open
Despite the closure of the swimming area, visitors can still use the Woog lake, albeit with some restrictions. The sunbathing lawns, the children's pool, and the showers in the family pool area remain open and are free of charge.
The city asks for your understanding regarding the restrictions. Further information about developments and a possible reopening of the swimming area will be provided as soon as possible.
Other bathing lakes are currently not affected
According to the city, the Prinz von Hessen quarry and the Arheilger Mühlchen are currently unaffected by the blue-green algae bloom. Water quality and potential contaminants are also regularly monitored there to ensure the safety of swimmers.
