After the end of the summer holidays, the barrier-free upgrade of the tram stop will begin
Just in time for the end of the Hessian summer holidays and the start of the new school year, tram lines 3 and 9 in Darmstadt will resume their regular service on Monday, August 10.During the holidays, HEAG mobilo used the time of the rail replacement bus service to carry out extensive track work at the "Goethestraße" .
As part of the "Infrastructure Renewal along Line 3" (IGEL3) project, the tracks in the station area were renewed over a length of approximately 120 meters. The previous tracks dated back to 1970. Simultaneously, work was carried out at the "Roßdörfer Platz" stop and on the overhead lines.
“We thank our passengers, but also the neighbors of our track work for their patience and understanding during the summer holidays,” explain HEAG-mobilo managing directors Arne Rath and Johannes Gregor.
Barrier-free expansion by the end of September
Immediately following the track renewal, the barrier-free reconstruction of the "Goethestraße" tram stop will begin. Initially, the stop in the direction of the city center will be modernized until the end of September . Trams on lines 3 and 7 will continue to run during the construction work, but will stop at temporary replacement stops. These are located at Karlstraße 96 and at Karlstraße 79.
The modernized tram stop will feature a tactile guidance system for visually impaired people, digital passenger information displays with text-to-speech functionality, and a 25-centimeter-high raised platform. This will make it easier for passengers with reduced mobility to board the trams. In addition, two new waiting shelters with green roofs will be built.
Diversion for car traffic
During the construction work, the traffic regulations already in place from the summer holidays will apply to car traffic. In the direction of Bessungen, the route leads through the bus stop area; in the direction of the city center, Klappacher Straße will remain in operation as a one-way detour.
